Students got a chance to meet the people behind College of Marin’s Police Department Wednesday morning during “Coffee, Communication, and Community,” a Welcome Week event held at the Student Services Bridge on the Kentfield campus.

The event ran from 9 to 11 a.m. on Sept. 2, giving students a chance to grab some morning treats while meeting campus police officers and staff in a more relaxed setting.

The event wasn’t just about coffee. Officers talked with students about how to contact COM Police in an emergency, what to do if they experience a crime on campus, and how students and police can build trust within the campus community.

And there was plenty of free stuff to go around. Attendees received free merch such as keychains, flashlights, pens, and pencils.

There were also some four-legged visitors on hand, with dogs at the event adding an extra bit of excitement to the morning.

Events like Coffee, Communication, and Community allow students to interact with campus police outside of an emergency or stressful situation. For students who may not know who to call or where to go if something happens on campus, meeting officers in a casual environment can make those connections a little easier.

With coffee, treats, free gear, and some friendly dogs, COM Police offered students a chance to start the morning by getting to know the people whose job is to help keep campus safe.
