As the academic year winds down, the journalism community is preparing to say goodbye to a familiar face. Communications Professor Ornelas has accepted a full-time position at Sierra College starting this fall, marking the end of his impactful support for our student reporters.
While Professor Ornelas did not serve as the club’s official faculty advisor, his presence at our meetings became a cornerstone of our editorial process. Whether he was sitting in on club meetings or offering a “second pair of eyes” on a difficult article, his commitment to student press was entirely voluntary, driven by a genuine passion for the craft and a belief in student voices.
While we are saddened to see him go, the move to Sierra College represents an exciting step in his career. The full-time appointment is a testament to the expertise and dedication we have witnessed firsthand in our newsroom.
The transition to a new campus is a gain for the Sierra College community, but his absence will certainly be felt here. We thank Professor Ornelas for the countless hours of proofreading, advice, constructive critiques, and for always reminding us that the best stories are found when you keep asking the right questions.
On behalf of the entire staff, we wish Professor Ornelas the very best of luck in his new role. Sierra College is lucky to have him.
“It was a good time, not a long time, but it really was a good time,” Professor Ornelas’ parting words to the club.
